DT765K - From Distraction to Augmentation

Session Description

Whether at home or at work, we all live in two worlds these days, time shifting between the physical world around us and the digital world in our palm or laptop. More often than not, activities in these separate worlds have little relation to one another. How can make our experience with digital devices more seamless and better integrated into our physical lives? How can we guarantee that the devices we now rely on 24x7 truly support our productivity and wellbeing? Maes will present the research happening in her group at the MIT Media Lab on designing less disruptive and better integrated systems that go beyond providing information access to truly enhance our cognitive functioning.
