OG118P - Jason Bourne Will Not Save You (Challenges with Tech in the Real World)

Session Description

In this session, the problems, challenges, and solutions of implementing IIoT solutions within an operating petrochemical facility will be discussed. Oftentimes in business, we are sold a bill of goods when it comes to technology and its ability to work like it does for Jason Bourne in the movies. Involving the people who will use the technology in the real world with the people who are selling the technology makes for a real-world Hollywood ending.

From the beginning, involve the team who will use and care for the technology solution you want to implement. Empower them, trust them, listen to them.
Play the long game. Because Jason Bourne won’t show up, be ready to invest time in your solution. Real world + unexpected challenges = more time than you thought to implementation.
Once you’ve worked through the problems with your “home” team and your vendor(s), the solution you create will be more elegant, and work better, than what you thought of in the beginning!
